HOW WE MET

How Scott and I met has always been my favorite story to tell, as it was defiantly an unusal setting. See my mom had been working at Walmart as a cashier, and she had asked me to go along with her to one of their midnight madness sales, (of course I said yes,as what woman would pass up a sale?) There was this lady in the checkout next to the one we were in, who wanted to buy some tide. Well this particular tide wasn't the one that was on sale that night, but the other one was sold out. She made such a stink about it, that the poor cashier had to call the front end manager (you guessed it, Scott). I turned to my mom and told her that I really hoped that she wouldn't get it, cause I really hated it when managers gave in to people like that, although I wouldn't be surprised if he did give in. Much to MY suprise, he actually told her no. I was SHOCKED! We left the store, and I kept telling mom how cute I thought he was and mom just lauged as HE was HER boss.

About a month later, mom and I we're back in Walmart and it just so happened that Scott was working that day. My mom actually had the nerve to call him over and introduced us. Well, I was blushing like crazy, and I don't even think I made a full sentence while talking to him. As we left the store that day, I asked mom that next time she saw him, to give him my number. I wasn't even sure if he was interested!

Well mom never got the chance to give him my number as he came up to her the next day, and told her to give me HIS number! Well my mom did just that, and of course waiting a couple of days (didn't want to seem too desperate) I gave him a call, and we immediately hit it off! And that was just the beginning!

THE FIRST DATE

Although I am ashamed to say it, I don't remember much about our first date. I had been so nervous about it, that we actual had a double date with a couple of friends of mine. It was March 3, 2006 (we now consider March 3rd as our dating anniversary). We went to this german restaurant called Barb and Ernie's. I had been their once before and I love their food. The date went fantastic and we had a few more dates with these friends of mine before I finally had enough nerve to go on a date alone. (I think we went to a movie)

Although, something I CAN remember that day, was when he picked me up, I got into his car and was pleasantly suprised that he actually had the country music radio station on. I love country music and it turned out so did he! In fact my Maid of Honor threatened to hurt me if all we play at the wedding reception is country.

GETTING TO KNOW EACH OTHER

As Scott and I had both gotten out of pretty bad relationships, we were determined not to rush into anything. We wanted to get to know the other person before committing to anything.

It was Friday, October 13th, 2006, and we were bored. I can't even remember what brought it up, but we both realized that we liked to take drives out in the country and just get completely hopelessly lost. So off we went, without a worry in the world. Probably about an hour into driving around, we were hopelessly lost and on a back dirt road. We found this little dirt road off of the main on, and it looked like it completely dropped off. Turned out it was just a really steep hill and Scott decided he was going to drive down it (thank god for 4X4). As we got to the bottom of this hill, there was a barbed wire gate a little farther ahead. But what really creeped us out, was just before the gate it looked like a campsite that had been viscously torn apart. And for those of you who don't know, this was in the midst of a serial killer that was killing Edmonton prostitutes and dumping them in that area. Well I got really freaked out and asked Scott to leave. As there wasn't enough room to turn the car around, we actually had to back up this almost 90 degree hill!

So we continued on and not long afterwards we came across these offical looking "ticket booths". We had accidently found the back entrance of Elk Island National Park! Well we decided to drive through the park and instantly fell in love with it. We go back so often, we have actually bought a Parks Canada pass (helps us when we go to Jasper as well). It was Elk Island that brought us closer together. We really got to know each other, and fell head over heels. It couldn't have been a more perfect way to fall in love. We were best friends long before we ever became lovers.

THE PROPOSAL

I knew about the ring before he "officially" proposed, after all, I picked both the engagement ring and my wedding band out about 2 and a half weeks before. And I had an inkling of when he was going to do it.

He had told me the week before that he really wanted to go out to Elk Island on Friday the 13th because it was Friday the 13th of the year before that we first started taking our drives. That wasn't what clued me in though, it was on the Sunday before, when out of the blue he told me that he wanted us to have our families over for dinner the next Saturday.

Unfortunately he got sick, and I thought that we may have to postpone our drive. When I told him this, he just shrugged it off, leaving a seed of doubt about the proposal in my mind.

Eventually, Friday did come, and he was feeling better, so off we went.
We arrived in time to see the sunset. And although it was beautiful, I had seen better produced by the park.

So there we were, sitting on a bench, on top of a hill, looking out across the lake. I told him I wanted to take a walk, out across the boardwalk. He looked at me, and said he thought I wanted to take pictures of the sunset. I told him no, I just wanted to watch it with him. So he said, "Okay, but before we go, I already know the answer, but I want you to know, that I love you and want to spend the rest of my life with you. I want to marry you."

I said yes, and he started to dig around in his pocket for the ring, he said "You can even wear it now....as long as I didn't loose it."
I laughed when he finally pulled it out and slipped it on my finger.

We took our walk and then drove around the park seeing, mule deer, bison, white tailed deer, porcupine and even moose! Infact we got so close to a mama moose and her babe, that there were a few times where we rolled up the window thinking they were going to stick their heads in the window! It was defiantly a night neither one of us will forget!

SPECIAL MEMORY

This is one of my favorite memories, and I really wanted to share it.

On the weekend of my birthday in August, Edmonton holds their Hertitage Days festival. Scott and I decided to go in August of 2006. I've always been very big on the Irish heritage so we stopped at one of the vendors that sold Irish products. I always wanted a Claddagh ring, and while we were there I saw the perfect one, so Scott actually bought it for me.

Now the legend for the Claddagh is "The ring worn on the right hand, crown turned inward tells your heart is yet unoccupied, worn with the crown turned outwards reveals love is being considered. Worn on the left hand the crown turned outward shows all, your heart is truly spoken for."

So I wore it for a few months on my right middle finger, with the crown turned outwards, and then I realized that Scott truly was the one for me, so I switched it to the middle finger on my left hand. Scott noticed right away, and was so happy when I did that.

I now wear the ring on a chain around my neck, as when I finally was able to wear my engagement ring, it just got in the way.

And that's just the first part of this memory.

About a month before Valentines day of 2007, I had noticed that Scott was wearing a pendant around his neck, shaped like a "S". I asked him where he got it and turned out to be something from his ex that he was just used to wearing.

About a week later, I was telling my mom about this and how it kind of bothered me that he was still wearing it, and he overheard us talking about it. So that night when we went up to bed, he took the chain from around the neck and took the pendant off, giving it to me. He told me that I should of told him that it bothered me.

So to replace it, since I knew he was used to wearing something around his neck, for Valentines Day 2007, I bought him a gold claddagh pendant. He loved it and put it on right away. He hasn't taken it off since!

MISC.

Scott and I love to do many things together. And I figured to let you in on a few of them.

We love going for breakfast on the weekends, and we usually go at least once a weekend. Our favorite restaurant to go to is Denny's but occasionally we will visit Ricky's as well, or if we're in a rush, McDonalds.

we love to watch the Oilers play, and no matter what kind of rut they're in, we will always cheer for the home team. We usually try to make it to at least one hockey game a year, although with the wedding coming up, we will probably miss out on that this year. At least we will still get to see them play on T.V.

In 2006, Scott, my brother James and I all went to Jasper for a weekend. It was my very first time out there, and I loved it. We are trying to make it a habit of going once a year. We also went in 2007 but unfortunately they are putting a pipeline through the park so there was alot of construction going. But we did get to see a Bull Elk and hear it's bugle, AND I even caught a glimpse of a bear!

We also try to make a habit of going camping at least once a year as well. Our favorite place is Elk Island National Park, and I have always told Scott that I will only camp at a campground that has indoor plumbing. I have a really big issue about using outhouses.

We both LOVE country music. Two of our recently favorite songs are Dusty Drake - Say yes (this is the song that plays on this website) and Brad Pasiley - She's Everything. Infact when Scott first heard She's Everything, it reminded him so much of me and the type of relationship we have, that it kind of become "our" song. We were even going to use it as our first dance song, that was until Scott heard "I Swear" by John Michael Montgomery. The first time he heard the song, as soon as it was over, he turned to me and said "We should use that one for our first dance." So that's what was decided.
